Important information.
Dear parents and carers,
I hope you have had a lovely time over the summer and I am sure your children are now ready to start the new school year, so welcome to Year 5! Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from Year 4 to Year 5. The Year 5 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have already had in Year 4. Children will learn in a formalized environment were Respect, Inclusion, Compassion and Honesty are the key values; ensuring children remain motivated, enthused and eager learners.
As a controlled and positive learning environment, children will receive individual Dojo points, house points, superstar certificates, homework passes and the Star of the Week award will be given every Friday.
HOMEWORK:
Reading : Every night. Children must read Big Cat reading books every night with an adult.
Accelerated Reading : Children should take part in 30 minutes of AR every day. 15 minutes of this is completed in class where children have the opportunity to complete quizzes to gain points.
Children should complete the other 15 minutes at home every night and parents/guardians should sign the AR log as evidence this has been completed.
Spelling: Every night. Children will receive spellings on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They will be tested on each set of spellings the following day and will complete a Friday test each week. The "Look, Write, Cover, Check" is a good approach for learning spellings.
Numeracy: Every night. Children should practice and recite times tables every night. Children will be given a set of tables to learn at the beginning of each week and this should be the homework focus. Written homework will be distributed on a Monday and will be collected on Friday.
Literacy written homework will be distributed on a Monday and collected on a Wednesday.
Topic and research homework will be given bi-weekly.
Homework is an important extension of in-school opportunities to learn. Please ensure all homework is supervised and brought into school on time.
I would like to thank you in advance for your co-operation,
Miss Mullen.
